DIY Pickles Yum

DIY Pickles Yum!

Diy pickles! Making your own pickles is not only super easy, its super good for you. When you make pickles, the bacteria on the cucumbers interact with the salt water over a period of days and make probiotics! Probiotics are so important to your gut health, which we now know is really a main factor in so many chronic diseases. You will need just a few things to get started.

Ingredients and Supplies:

Large Mason Jar – 24 ounces

Thin dish towel

4-6 small cucumbers

1-2 garlic gloves minced (We use 2 cubes of Trader Joe’s frozen cubed garlic)

1 tablespoon dill seed

1 tablespoon dill weed dried

1 oak or grape leaf shredded

pinch crushed red pepper

2 cups distilled water or filtered water * Do not use tap the chemicals in it will ruin your pickles and you won’t get the probiotics

3-4 Tablespoons sea salt

Get adventurous – We once read someone who put cinnamon in their pickles. Hmmm. try mustard seeds or caraway seeds…

Preparation:

Dissolve your sea salt in the filtered or distilled water

Add all your spices and leaf to your mason jar.

Add your cucumbers to the jar making sure they all fit in

Add your salt water to cover the cucumbers

Cover the jar with a thin dish towel for a few days and sample. Once it is to your liking, refrigerate. They are good for several months refrigerated.
